MNFI has awarded over $7.9 million in grants

The MN Fundraising Initiative grant program gives MN Adults and Kids the opportunities to achieve their full potential via sports and education.

2025 grant schedule:

  • Grants for the arts (January/February)
  • Sports-related (March/April)
  • K-12 Education related expenses (May/June)
  • School Computers/Tablets (July/August)
  • Educational K-College Tuition/Student Loans  (September/October)
  • Dance (November/December)

     

The Grant Committee reads every application and then meets in person to select the recipients.  Our notification dates are on or before the 21st of the following month. (January, March, May, July, September, November, ).  This gives the Grant Committee time to review and verify all documentation.

Our grant application deadlines are February 15th, April 15th, June 15th, August 15th, October 15th and December 15th

Grant Q&A

MN Fundraising Initiative awards grants that support a variety of youth and adult activities.  This includes activities such as:

  • Grants for the arts (January/February)
  • Sports-related (March/April)
  • K-12 Education related expenses (May/June)
  • School Computers/Tablets (July/August)
  • Educational K-College Tuition/Student Loans  (September/October)
  • Dance (November/December)

The MNFI Grant Committee follows a multi-step approval process in accordance with IRS rules and MNFI bylaws.

Businesses and individuals will have 3 months to cash the grant check after which un-cashed checks will automatically be voided. If a business or individual needs a check re-issued they will need to email the Grant Committee (treasurer@mnfundraisinginitiative.org) and there will be a charge for reissued checks.

All grant applications must be between $50 and $750.

Due to the volume of grants received, processing can take up to 21 days after the grant submission closing dates.  The Grant Committee kindly asks that you allow at least 22 days before requesting a status update.  

An invoice is a formal document sent by a seller to a buyer, detailing the goods or services provided, the quantity, price, and total amount due, essentially serving as a request for payment and acting as a record of the transaction between the two parties.

Your invoice must be on company letter head and  includes the seller and buyer information, a description of the items sold, and payment terms. 
 
Key elements of an invoice:
  • Seller details: Company name, address, contact information
  • Buyer details: Customer name, address, contact information
  • Invoice number: Unique identifier for the invoice
  • Invoice date: Date the invoice was issued
  • Description of goods/services: Detailed list of items or services provided
  • Quantity: Number of units or amount of service provided
  • Unit price: Price per unit of the item or service
  • Total amount due: Calculated sum of all items
  • Payment terms: Due date and accepted payment methods

First, if you did not get an email in your inbox, please check your spam/junk folder.  If you did not receive a confirmation email, please contact treasurer@mnfundraisinginitiative.org to inquire before resubmitting the grant request.  

Grants for K-12 or University/College tuition must go directly to the school.
Due to legal requirements, MNFI does not offer reimbursement for these types of grants.

  • Applications must have 2 references from a teacher or coach.  Teacher/coach recommendations should be an honest appraisal of a student’s academic/sporting performance and must be dated within 14 days of the submission.  Grant applications with only teacher/coach contact information will be declined.  References must include email contact information so they can be verified.   References must be on school of business letterhead.
  • Grants applications for tuition must provide a copy of the student’s school or college tuition statement/invoice.  This document must state it is an invoice.  The invoice/ statement must have the following information on it:  
    – School name,
    – Student name,
    – Student identification number,
    – Year or term tuition is due for,
    – Balance Due: This must be a current balance due.
    – The invoice must state what is balance due is for.

    This document must be attached to the grant application as a PDF and must be readable when printed.

Each person/group/company can only apply for 1 grant per grant application session.

No. Once the grant application has been submitted, no charges can be made.  The only thing that can be asked is for the grant to be cancelled.
